Hypnotherapy for Fussy Eating
Being a fussy eater as a kid is not unusual.
Kids often get slightly odd ideas as they try to make sense of the world around them but don’t know all the facts.
This can often happen with new foods, especially as they try things for the first time.
They put 2+2 together – and don’t get 4.
For example, they might be trying a food and feel sick later (nothing to do with the food) but believe that it was the food that caused it – and become too scared to ever eat it again.
Sometimes it’s about textures or fears of choking or things getting stuck in the throat.
Or it could be they were being made to eat something they didn’t like (usually vegetables) and found that having a tantrum meant it was taken away and they were given something tastier like ice cream or chips by a parent desperate for their child not to go hungry.
Or it could be an idea (usually false) about food such as where it comes from or what it’s made of, or what might happen if it’s eaten that made them squeamish and refuse to eat it.
When I was five I was scared to eat eggs because I was afraid they might have contained unhatched chicks (I had a very overactive imagination).
But to this day, I have still never found one sitting in my pan when I make breakfast (I eat eggs everyday now because they are a great source of protein and essential nutrients).
Like most children, I grew out of it.
But for some of you, these ideas stick around a little longer and occasionally make an appearance later in life.
And then you need help because you’ve realised that it doesn’t look so good to only be able to eat chips, or chicken nuggets, or chocolate when you’re out in a nice restaurant.
(I say this because almost every client I have ever had for fussy eating will tell me they live off a combination of these “safe” foods – It’s usually to do with the texture)
Or perhaps, you want to feel healthier or improve your physique or figure, and you need proper nutrition which comes from that elusive varied diet.
Many picky eaters are scared of eating meat – particularly red meat but know that it contains all the essential nutrients they crave.
Maybe you’ve just got really fed up of eating the same few things and it’s time to explore the wonderful world of food – but you don’t know where to start.
