Hypnosis for pain management
Discover how you can start to get control of your pain with hypnosis
Pain is one of the most debilitating conditions that can blight a person’s life. It is therefore comforting to know that pain can be managed by hypnotherapy.
I’ll make no claims that this is a miracle cure and that I can simply make your pain vanish with a few magic words because sometimes we feel pain for an important reason. For example it serves as reminder that we are injured, or ill – and therefore we should rest and recuperate, rather than aggravate a condition by movement.
But hypnotherapy can reduce pain, and in some cases – when there are no known physical causes for it – can help it to disappear altogether.
Hypnotherapy can be a very effective means of pain management. It was used by pioneering early surgeons as a way to relieve pain on the operating table before anaesthetic drugs were invented – enabling the patient to undergo procedures that would otherwise have been too agonising to contemplate.
And it’s still used now for people who cannot tolerate anaesthetic. Often dentists use hypnotic techniques to lessen both fears and the pain itself in their surgeries.
Hypnotherapy can lessen pain’s torment and allow us to regain our quality of life. And it can give you back control over your body.
My hypnotherapy treatment for pain allows you the means to control your pain levels, distracts you from thinking about pain, and gives you coping tools and self-hypnosis techniques to put you in better control of your body and mind.*
And it covers a range of conditions, from headaches and migraines to cancer.
Before any hypnosis for pain treatment can take place, you must consult your GP and have an initial assessment with me (which is simply an informal chat and a questionnaire) and complete a pain diary. I normally ask that the assessment is done face-to-face in my treatment room in Mexborough, but strictly in this instance I will consider talking via telephone. This assessment is free. Subsequent sessions are £70 an hour for appointments between 9am-5pm, and £75 for appointments after 5pm. The number of sessions depends entirely on the nature of the pain.
