Frequently Asked Questions about hypnosis
If you’re considering coming to me for Hypnotherapy, EFT or NLP, you may have questions before you book your appointment.
Read my hypnosis FAQs here to find answers to some of the more common questions. If there’s anything you still want to know, just email or call/text me and I’ll do my best to answer.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Think of it as a guided meditation that uses positive suggestions to make sub-conscious changes to your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It’s a state of focused concentration, where you’re focused internally, rather that externally – like a daydream. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind and you go into a type of hypnosis repeatedly everyday on your own, whenever you daydream, read a book, drive a familiar route, or watch a film. And, because it’s a relaxed state, you’re likely to find it very pleasant.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes. There may be times when it gets a little bit emotionally intense, if you are revisiting a past event, for example, but you are in fact perfectly safe, sitting in a chair, just listening to my voice. And of course you can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time.
Do I have total mind control over you?
Nope. In fact, you are the one in control. Think of me as your tour-guide to your mind, directing you to the parts that need attention. It’s you doing the work, not me. You are the one with the power to change.
Will I get stuck in hypnosis?
No. It’s a temporary state and you will always naturally return to full conscious awareness of your own accord. And of course, you have the power to bring yourself out of it anytime, because you are in control.
Can I be hypnotised?
If you can follow my instructions, you will be hypnotised. For this reason, only the under-fives and those with significant mental impairment cannot be hypnotised. It’s likely therefore, that you can. You might only experience a light trance and feel quite alert, but unless you actively decide to mentally resist my words (and why would you when you want to feel better and you are paying for the privilege) then you will be in a lovely state of hypnosis.
Will you make me dance like a chicken?
Not unless you want to.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
Well, you’ll likely be relaxing in my comfy chair, and I’ll ask you to just listen to my voice and follow my instructions. I might also be playing some relaxing music. I might touch you on the head/arm/hand/leg. Depending on your treatment, I may re-alert you, or ask you to speak, or move. But you will be perfectly safe.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
That depends entirely on your needs and your issue. In my experience, it’s best to budget generally for between three and six sessions as most things are resolved in this time. It may be fewer, if you and I both feel happy that your issue has been resolved before then. I always do my best to ensure that your treatment is concluded in the shortest amount of sessions possible. However, smoking-cessation is done in one two-hour session, and certain phobias and food cravings can be treated with EFT in one session. I will discuss estimated treatment length at your induction session.*
How do I pay you?
I accept cash and cheques, made payable to Alexandra Vessey, as well as Paypal and BACS transfers. I also have a chip and pin card reader that takes Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express.
Are you qualified to be treating me?
I hold a Diploma in Professional Hypnotherapy, a Diploma in Neuro-linguistic Programming, Certification as a Weight Management Specialist, Certification as a Smoking Cessation Specialist, a Certificate in Hypnotherapy with Past Life Regression and a Practitioners Certificate in Emotional Freedom Techniques. I am fully registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register, and the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council which are the UK’s largest and most prominent organisations within the field of hypnotherapy. I’m also a member of the Government-backed Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council which demands the highest and strictest professional standards from its members.
Further to that, I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Applied Ethics and a university degree.
Where are you?
I have a lovely spacious room in a quiet office/community building called the Mexborough Resource Centre which, if you’re from Mexborough, you may know as the old South Yorkshire Times building. It’s just off Bank Street and therefore very close to the centre of Mexborough – which is a short drive from Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley, Sheffield and Wakefield.
If you’re using a SatNav – the postcode is S64 9AZ. You can also find a map and easy parking details on my How To Find Me page.
I’m also only 5 minutes walk from Mexborough station and bus interchange. Direct trains come every half hour from Doncaster, Conisbrough, Swinton, Rotherham, Meadowhall and Sheffield. It is very easy to get to me!
This all sounds marvellous. How can I book?
Well that is very easy. I have a brilliant online booking system here which you can use to book that free initial assessment session at a time to suit you. Simply have a look at the available times, click one that suits you and book yourself in. Or you can call me, text me, email me or fill out my easy contact form and I’ll arrange it for you.
What is the Cancellation Policy?
Please note that a minimum of 24 hours notice is required for the cancellation of any appointment slot – including the initial free assessment session, or a fee WILL be charged.
Cancellation within this time will result in a charge of 50 per cent of the cost of the treatment; and £15 in the event of cancellation of the free assessment. This is to cover my costs related to your booking and for the preparation time I will have spent working on your treatment.
Furthermore, my appointment times are always in very high demand, so please respect both my time and that of my other clients, by letting me know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend. In the case of a No-Show, with no notice, an invoice will be sent out for the full amount for a missed treatment session and for £30 for an Initial Assessment Session.
Do you enforce it?
Yes, I’m sorry to say it has become necessary to enforce the rule that clients abide by the policy to give a minimum of 24 hours notice in the event of cancellation as it’s not fair on either myself or my other clients who really do want to get help. If you were asked to attend your work, you would expect to be paid would you not? I will send an invoice via Paypal to be paid on receipt.
Can I buy that lovely music I found so relaxing in the hypnotherapy session?
Yes, you can. You can have it for just £20 and it’s all yours to play to help you relax any time. Just ask me in the session and I can send it as a link that you can download.
